Getting My Green Drink On

So last night I got off early for once and was actually able to attend a L.A. Green Drinks. Last night happened to be the spin off of the new Downtown mixer which will be taking place on Wednesdays at the Pharmaka Art Gallery.

I still got there late (it started at 7p.m. and I got off at 7:45 p.m.) but I'm glad I went. The studio space is pretty cool, and we will be reviewing it on your daily thread soon. I also go to try out some new organic vodka that I had never heard of called TRU. Green drinks mixers are pretty cool, we've been advocating them for some time at your daily thread. If you are interested in learning more about L.A.'s green community, it's a great place to get started.

There are usually speakers who have done interesting stuff, and people really making a difference. We got to meet some people once who had taken a boat trip to the Gyre in the Pacific Ocean between L.A. and Hawaii that is a collection of plastics in the water that by some estimates is the size of Texas. It's pretty intense and not what you would imagine. By the time the plastic gets out there it's in such tiny pieces and particles that it just becomes in bedded in the water, in a sense they have bonded. The plastics also look like food to the small fishes, who are food to the big fishes, who are food for us...this is part of the reason why it's not safe to eat ocean fish all that often anymore.

My boyfriend introduced me to a cool video on VBS about a different group that took a tour to the Pacific Gyre. If you are curious you should definitely check it out.

A Blog is Born

Hello everyone. This is the beginning of my person blog, Simple Problem, Simple Solution. It's more than just my blog title, it's my motto sort of. Essentially, every problem you encounter has a simple solution to make it better. I try to live by this, but am not always successful :)
So what will this blog be about...I'm not quite sure yet. Want I want to accomplish with it is a perspective of living life to the fullest in Los Angeles.

A little bit about me, I was born in Hollywood CA in the early 80s before the area became hip and gentrified. My parents bought a house in the west valley when I
was 6 and that is where I really grew up.

I went to college in Santa Barbara where I made friends with beer, lived on the beach, and got a double major in Anthropology and Communications. After college, my boyfriend and I bought one way tickets to Europe and stayed there for 7 months. We lived in Barcelona for 4 months, and traveled the rest. We made great friends, and had the time of our lives. We came back to the U.S. With career aspirations in the film industry, L.A. was the natural choice.

So I moved back, 3 miles away from where I was born, and began to live in a city that I was always near, but never really knew. It's now been over a year, and I love it. Despite our smog and pollution, L.A. is amazing city, and it's under rated (watch out NYC). People complain about the congestion, and the overpopulation; while all of that sucks, L.A.'s unique compilations of villages making up one giant city makes it an inspiring place to try to make your mark in the world. There are so many different people, and doing tons of unique things. Art, Film, Social Change, The Green Movement, Bicycle Expansion...

All of these things make me happy to call this city my home. So I guess this blog will be about me exploring all these aspects of city life. I hope to post 1 to 2x a week for now. If you know me from your daily thread, I will definitely be writing about my experience there and the conscious living/green movement in L.A. as well, but it won't limit to just that stuff.
